This week has been a great week for author interviews. I am a big believer in studying the creative process from all sorts of people and authors from every genre. Check out some of these amazing authors and hear their stories and thoughts on story craft and the art of storytelling from the week of February 12-16, 2018.
This week’s author interviews
We started the week with Jason Anspach and Nick Cole recapping the last year of Galaxy’s Edge and talking about what’s next.
Today Jason Anspach and Nick Cole return to talk about what they’ve learned from nearly a year of Galaxy’s Edge and looking toward the completion of their initial nine book run. What’s next from Galaxy’s Edge, and how are they expanding and taking it to new levels? Tune in today to find out.
From the minds of Dragon Award winning author Nick Cole (CTR + ALT + REVOLT!) and Jason Anspach (’til Death), Galaxy’s Edge is a universe of adventure where outlaws, rogues, and rebels fight to survive under the oppressive regime of the Republic and its fearsome Legionnaires.
Nick Cole is a working actor living in Southern California. Nick Cole has been writing for most of his life and acting in Hollywood after serving in the U.S. Army.
Tuesday John Lescroart dropped by to talk about his long career writing legal thrillers. This was a fantastic interview that deserves more than one listen.
“Lescroart never ceases to amaze his fans. The wit, the timing, the dialogue—everything combines to give this author yet another bestseller and provide readers with a fast-paced, memorable thriller.” —Suspense Magazine
“The narrative flows effortlessly and includes a Perry Mason–worthy moment when Hardy manifests a bit of courtroom magic. Lescroart is a perfect choice for readers who enjoy great ensemble casts.” —Booklist
In John Lescroart’s latest thriller, San Francisco attorney Dismas Hardy is called upon to investigate the murder of a wealthy man whose heirs are all potential suspects.
Dismas Hardy is looking forward to easing into retirement and reconnecting with his family after recovering from two glancing gunshot wounds courtesy of a recent client. But this plan is cut short when, against his wife’s wishes, he is pulled back into the courtroom by the murder of Grant Wagner, the steely owner of a successful family business. The prime suspect is Wagner’s bookkeeper, Abby Jarvis, a former client of Hardy’s who had been receiving large sums of cash under-the-table from the company—but she insists that she’s innocent and Dismas wants to believe her.
As he prepares for trial, Dismas probes deeply into the Wagner clan’s history, discovering dark secrets, jealous siblings, gold-digging girlfriends, startling betrayals, and menacing blackmailers. Suspense builds as the trial date looms, and the closer Dismas gets to the Wagners, the clearer it becomes that he has a large target painted on his back.
With John Lescroart’s razor-sharp dialogue, intricate plotting and relentless pacing, Poison is a nail-biter that will keep you guessing until the very last page.
John Lescroart is the author of over twenty-seven novels, including the New York Times bestsellers The Ophelia Cut, The Keeper, The Fall, and Fatal. His books have sold more than ten-million copies and have been translated into twenty-two languages. He lives in Northern California.

Thursday Kimmery Martin debuted her new novel The Queen of Hearts.
Meet cardiologist Zadie and trauma surgeon Emma. Best friends since sum¬mer camp, the pair has journeyed through medical school and residencies together. Years later, they have settled in Charlotte, NC with families and suc¬cessful careers. But when a face from their past appears at the hospital where Emma works, it threatens to topple both women’s carefully constructed lives and tear a gash in their friendship.
As chief resident, Nick Xenokostas was the center of Zadie’s life—both professionally and personally—through a tragic chain of events in her third year of medical school that she has long since put behind her. Nick’s unexpected reappearance during a time of new professional crisis shocks both women into a deeper look at the difficult choices they made at the beginning of their careers. As it becomes evident that Emma must have known more than she revealed about circumstances that nearly derailed both their lives, Zadie starts to question ev¬erything she thought she knew about her closest friend.
Alternating between the friends’ med school experience in Louis¬ville, KY and present-day careers in Charlotte, Martin captures the all-con¬suming nature of medicine and its effect on the women’s personal lives. The author has a keen eye for portraying modern domestic life. Martin’s medi¬cal background means hospital scenes are vibrantly realized on the page, and her quirky, humorous voice adds levity to the otherwise serious moments.
Thrumming with suspense, humor, and empathy, THE QUEEN OF HEARTS proves that matters of the heart between two best friends can be some of the most wrenching and secret-filled.
